Peeling the orange
“Behold, now is the accepted time: Behold, now is the day of salvation.”
2 CORINTHIANS 6:2

At the core of faith there is that innermost, indivisible cell called commitment. Faith is peeling the orange. It’s cracking the egg. It’s opening the can of coke! Faith is delivering the ice. Now you either consume it, or throw it away. There are those tides and times in the affairs of human life when we must take action-now! There can be no procrastination! To delay is fatal! Thank You God, for giving me the faith to make decisions courageously Amen.

Stepping out of line
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of you mind…”
ROMANS 12:2

Do you dare to be a maverick? A maverick is a spunky spirited calf that doesn’t run with the herd but ventures out into the beckoning canyons. Mavericks are essential to the survival of the herd. A herd with no mavericks huddles together with backs to the wind, heads down, shoulders together, seeking to survive the storm. More than one herd has frozen to death that way. Where is one who can break out of the group, put his head to the wind, and venture out to find shelter from the storm or discover new grazing ground. Dare to be a wise but wonderful nonconformist. Look at the leaders of the world! They all step forward and upward and onward. O Lord, give me enough faith to step out of line and move ahead with courage toward the dream You have given me. I shall dare to be a maverick today. Thank You God.

Flying with an unknown pilot
“Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Prove yourselves.
CORINTHIANS 13:5

Today I’m going to give you a checkup on your walk of faith. How shall I grade you? Are you passing the course? Even on the days when you wonder about the very existence God and were temped to doubt his presence, will you pass the grade? Yes you pass with flying colors. Why? You are a believer even when you do not feel it. The walk of faith is like traveling on an airplane. You never see the pilot at the controls. Yet you step into the plane, believing he is there and that he can handle the flight. We ride this spacecraft called Earth, traveling at an incredible speed, and we assume there is a pilot at the controls! That’s faith! Thank You, Lord, that I really do believe in You. I assume You are there all the time—and You are! I have a stronger faith than I realize.

Adventuring into new territories
“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea. Even there Your hand shall lead me.”
PSALM 139:7-10

When we trust the pilot at the controls of out lives, then we are ready to venture into new territories. Is anything quite as exciting as an adventure? When a member of my church knew that she was at death’s door and was soon to make the transition from earth to heaven, she was genuinely excited. As she patted her bible affectionately, she said, “My suitcase is packed. My bills are all paid. My passport is in order. I’ve been looking forward to this trip all my life. Faith—it’s seeking adventure into new territories! Are you starting a new business? Are you unemployed? Did you get laid off? Maybe you need to move to a new locality, learn a new trade, or be reeducated. Look upon each day as a new adventure into new territories! With God as your guide you need not be afraid. We cannot travel beyond His care and keeping.

Liberating your creative powers
“For you shall go out with joy and—peace the mountains and the hills shall break forth into singing—and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.”
ISAIAH 55:12

When we begin to breathe the breath of faith we discover we are becoming creative persons. How exciting! Have you noticed? In the quiet hours of the early morning you get your brightest ideas. That’s because those are the times when you are protected from the possibility of unwelcome, pressure-producing interruptions that simulate tension. Deep relaxation allows creativity to happen. The sounds and sights of nature relax the soul. We find it natural to believe in God when we behold the starry heavens from the mountaintop. Faith in God liberates the creative powers, for faith gives me peace of mind! Tranquility is conditioning fro creativity. Thank You, Father for creating me to be a partner in the creative work in this world. I open my mind to your ideas; I believe that Your ideas can be translated into constructive creative activity. Thank You, Lord. Amen.

Advancing with boldness
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid, and for the joy over it, he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.”
MATTHEW 13:44

It’s easy to see why some people fail. They are under the lordship of an unholy trinity –acidity, frigidity, and timidity. Some fail because of acidity, Their personalities are bitter. They are poisoned with negative thinking. Others fail because of frigidity. They’re cold. They lack the warmth of affection to attract good people. Still others fail because of timidity. They demand guarantees of safety before the move. You’ll never get ahead until you start advancing. In our Bible verse a person is walking across property with a “for sale” sign on it, stumbles on hidden treasure, hides it then what? He moves fast! Sells everything—and buys it! You are walking across opportunities today! Spot them, grab them- fast.

Stimulating positive emotions
“We also should walk in newness of life.”
ROMANS 6:4

Living the faith stimulates positive emotions. In the same way doubt constantly feeds negative emotions. Doubt is an anesthetic. Skepticism drains the spirit. Unbelief makes us drowsy. Negative thinking turns us into dreary people, fearful of our fears and worried about our worry. What a despairing cycle! My faith stimulates positive thinking, and positive thinking stimulates me to see all of the possibilities. God is encouraging me. The Lord is nudging me forward. Thank You, Father, for drawing me into this circle of excitement. Thank You, for saving me from the sad cycle of deadly skepticism and fatiguing boredom. Humor has returned to my life. Joy has stepped into my morning. I hear the birds sing again, I’m overwhelmed by an abundance of blessing. Thank You. Lord. Amen.

Agreeing to advance
“For you shall go out with joy. And be led forth with peace. The mountains and the hills shall break forth into singing before you. And all the tree of the field shall clap their hands.”
ISAIAH 55:12

You are moving upward, forward, and onward! You are deprogramming yourself of all negative input. You are reprogramming yourself positively. You are transcending human distractions and inadequacies. And you agree today to advance in your walk of faith until you give God complete lordship over your life. When you turn leadership of your life over to God then you agree to advance, even though you do not know where God will lead. Remember, faith is moving beyond the realm of the sure into the realm of the uncertain.

Escalating your expectations
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways. And My thoughts than your thoughts.”
ISAIAH 55:9

Now that you’re on the move, stretch your faith until it is big enough to unfold the plan God has for you! Make your thinking big enough for God to fit in! Let the size of your faith set the size of your goals! Match your expectation to God’s abilities! You are an optimist, not a pessimist. You are a possibility thinker, not an impossibility thinker. Browning said “A mans reach must exceed his grasp, or what’s a heaven for?” Reach for heaven today. Reach for God’s way. Reach for his thoughts. Faith is escalating your expectations!

Harvesting the crop
“ … whose hope is the Lord… shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river… nor will cease from yielding fruit.”
JEREMIAH 17:7-8

We can all understand that it takes a lot of faith to plow the ground, to plant the seed, to water the seed, and even prune the growth. But to harvest the crop? How is that an act of faith? Isn’t harvest time a time for thanksgiving? Now is the time for relaxation right? Wrong! Harvesting requires its own walk of faith, for the farmer who harvests believes that his crop will find a buyer in the marketplace. Likewise when I finally have a sermon prepared, I deliver it in the faith and belief that it will be helpful to others. Success can tempt you take it easy if the joy of harvest, plus the high price paid to achieve it, has temped you to retire and retreat from future expansion and growth, then you’re in real trouble! To quote Viktor Frank.. “the is must never catch up with the ought” Not having a new goal is to be feared more than not reaching that goal. “O God, give me faith strong enough to harvest the crop!
